CATTUS ISLAND COUNTY PARK

Discovery Backpacks


Cattus Island County Park has 10 discovery backpacks. The packs, which may be borrowed for FREE*, contains tools to help families enjoy and learn about Cattus Island County Park. The packs include: a pair of binoculars, several field guides, an audio guide to bird sounds, an aquatic dip net, tools for catching and holding insects, and several suggested activities and games. The packs are appropriate for family groups with children of any age.
*A member of the family must provide a driver’s license for the staff to hold until the pack is returned.

Tour Cattus Island By Bike


Cattus Island now has bicycles to loan out for use within the park. The bicycles
are free* to use. Adult bicycles and helmets of various sizes are available.
You may borrow a bicycle for two hours, seven days a week, between 8:00am
and 2:00pm. Bicycles may not be taken out of the park.
*A member of the family must provide a driver’s license for the staff to hold until the bike is returned.

 

Bird Feeding Station


Fall attracts a variety of hungry migrant and resident birds to the feeding station at the Cooper Environmental Center. The naturalist staff at Cattus Island County Park will decipher the mystery of identifying our local avifauna. Feel free to ask questions regarding the best way to set up your own feeding station at home. Binoculars are a plus but are not required to enjoy and learn all about our feathered friends. No registration is required.

Scales & Tales


Snakes are frequently subject to many myths. Join a naturalist as they undercover the real truth about snakes in this LIVE animal presentation. No registration is required.

Turtle Feeding


The Cooper Environmental Center houses a variety of native turtles, including the Diamondback Terrapin, the Box Turtle and the Painted Turtle. Naturalists and youth volunteers will be on hand to answer all of your questions while they feed and otherwise care for our native turtles.
No registration is required.

Cattus Island Nature Walks

The cooler days of autumn bring a variety of new opportunities for viewing wildlife. Our 2 o’clock nature walks represent a thirty-year tradition of offering a fun, educational and interactive look at the wilds of Cattus Island. Take a break from the daily grind and get back to basics with a short jaunt through one of Ocean County’s best-kept secrets. Registration is not required.
