The hobby of birding has become the fastest growing outdoor recreational activity in North America. These two-hour workshops are designed to increase one’s knowledge and enjoyment of birds and birding. Most classes will include a PowerPoint presentation to illustrate a majority of the birds and activities.

Winter Feeder Birds

Feeding birds in your yard can be one of the most pleasurable activities possible in the
dead of winter. Most people do not realize how many different birds are around their
home until they start feeding. We will identify the most common species you may see, as
well as review types of feed and feeders.


Early Nesting Birds
DATE: March 1 ............ 424066-4A
The first birds to nest in New Jersey are the Great Horned Owl and The Bald Eagle. Both
birds begin to lay eggs while snow is still on the ground. Come and learn more about
these fascinating birds.


Binoculars and Scopes
DATE: March 15 ........... 424066-5A
Optics are essential to the pleasure of birding. Learn the advantages and disadvantages
of different types and models. We will review all characteristics to help you choose the
right binoculars or scopes for you. This will set you up to shop at Cape May Bird
Observatory’s annual optics sale in March.
