The Borough
of Lakehurst Historical Museum is housed in the oldest
Roman Catholic Church in Ocean County. Old St. John's Church was
established in 1874. The museum was opened in 1993. The old jail
cell and the replica of the Jersey Devil are the children's favorites.
Many pictures and artifacts depict the busy railroad era with a
running model of the Blue Comet train.
The Hindenburg disaster
is the highlight of the museum, with pictures, newspapers, books
an artifacts telling of this historic event. The museum also showcases
a beautiful music box dated 1864 and a gramophone from 1900.
The annual fund-raiser
for the Lakehurst Historical Society Museum is the
Fourth of July Car Show.The event includes trophies
for the cars, food and crafts, silent auction and culminates with
fireworks over Lake Horicon.
